What to Look for When Viewing Student Housing in Brighton

A viewing is your chance to work out whether a flat will suit the way you live. Look beyond the styling and imagine an ordinary weekday: getting ready, studying, cooking and coming home. Here is a practical checklist to take when viewing student housing in Brighton.
Check the layout and your study space
Is the bed area part of the main room, or is there a separate bedroom?
Can you sit comfortably at the desk, with space for your laptop and course materials?
Is there enough wardrobe and cupboard space for your belongings?
How much daylight does the room get, and which way does it face?
Which floor is the flat on, and will getting to it suit your daily routine?
At The 1815, studios combine living and sleeping space, while our one- and two-bedroom flats offer separate bedrooms. Each is furnished and has a desk with an office chair. Use the floor plans and photographs alongside what you see at the viewing.
Look closely at the kitchen and laundry
Check the actual appliances: a combination oven/microwave is different from a separate oven and microwave. Look at fridge and freezer space, work surfaces and storage, especially if you cook regularly.
All our flats have their own kitchen and bathroom. Most have their own washer/dryer. Flats 1A and 11 each use a washing machine shared with one other flat. Ask to see where shared laundry is located and how access works.
Check the bathroom and everyday details
Look at ventilation, lighting and space for towels and toiletries.
Ask how the heating and hot water work.
Check where the sockets are and ask about the WiFi connection.
Ask how to report a maintenance problem and what to do if you lose access to your flat.
Plan the journey to your actual campus, rather than judging it by the city-centre location alone.

Confirm the costs and house policies
Ask for the monthly rent, payment schedule and included bills. Check any pet arrangements and what is expected at move-out. Our five questions before renting cover these discussions in more detail.
At The 1815, there is no deposit or guarantor requirement. Your rent will not increase for at least the first two years of your stay. You arrive to a professionally cleaned flat; when you leave, take your belongings and we do the clean with no cleaning fees or extra charge.
Cats and dogs under 15kg are welcome on any floor. Heavier pets are first-floor only due to noise travelling between floors. Ask us about your pet before making arrangements.
Make a note before you leave
Write down the flat number, rent, included bills and anything you want clarified. If you view several properties, compare them against the same checklist. The right choice should work for your budget and everyday life as well as look good in photographs.
